Whilst a nice snapshot, this to me isn't a fantastic photo:

Composition wise this lingers around my 'OK' reaction.

The nails, which are of course the focal point of the image, sit nicely on a rule of thirds 'power point'. However the rest of the image lacks a certain structure, the hand feels chopped off at an awkward point at the edge of the frame and the thumb is all but missing.

To improve the composition I think a different angle would work. Moving the camera so as to be a little more front on to the hand and at a higher angle would give the fingers a longer, more slender looking physique. This would also enable you to keep the focus on the nails whilst also including more of the hand. This would also eliminate the distracting subject in the background.

Lighting wise I feel that is a mixed bag; the light across what I think is a leather surface is lovely, if a little too light, and gives a great texture. Unfortunately the shadows under the fingers are a little dark and hold no detail, similarly for the fingers themselves, little detail has been kept in the highlights.

Generally I think that perhaps the contrast is a little high.

Other than that, as a general note, when photographing small details such as hands/nails; I would make sure the detail such as nail polish is perfect, two seconds to tidy up spots of polish on the rest of the finger and cuticle would really lift the image. This could be done in post-processing as well if need be!

Overall, a nice photo but in my eyes, nothing special from a technical or artistic perspective.
